The Gary Sinise Foundation, Restoring Independence Supporting Empowerment (R.I.S.E.) Program, is providing smart homes to America’s most severely wounded heroes and their families. This also includes home modifications, mobile devices and adapted vehicles that will be given to wounded, sick or aging heroes from all military conflicts. Simple everyday tasks may be taken for granted, but living in reliance of caregivers for very personal tasks are a reality for many wounded veterans.

After the events of September 11, 2001, actor Gary Sinise chose to devote his time to supporting and helping the people who were deployed in response to the attacks. His mission through this foundation is to support out nation’s defenders, veterans and first responders and their loved ones.

Recently, a home dedication for US Marine Corps Sergeant Michael Frazier occurred on August 26th in North Carolina. He was injured by an improvised explosive device while in Afghanistan, taking both his legs and most of the use of his right arm. The National Wood Flooring Association has donated floors for Frazier’s new home, in addition to 19 other homes that have been completed. NWFA is working to source wood flooring for 25 more R.I.S.E. homes currently in construction. By the end of this year, 61 adapted smart homes will be completed or underway.
