Polyurethane Finished Hardwood Floor Care

If you have polyurethane finished hardwood floors, you want to keep them looking as bright and sharp as the day they were installed. With a little effort, this is totally feasible. These tips will help you keep your polyurethane finished hardwood floors looking beautiful.

Polyurethane Finished Hardwood Floor Care

Vacuum

Debris inevitably accumulates on hardwood floors and in the cracks. While sweeping and dusting will get the debris on top of the floor, it won’t grab that stuff that’s stuck in the cracks. A vacuum cleaner is the only way to suck up this debris that rests between the floor boards. Ideally you can vacuum a wood floor with the floor brush attachment. If you have an upright vacuum, turn off the rotating brush so it doesn’t scratch the hardwood floor.

Take Care of Spills and Scuffs

If something spills on the floor or if you see a scuff, don’t wait til later to clean it up or buff it out. You can read our blogs on dealing with spills and removing scuffs and scratches from hardwood floors for more information.

Use Cleaning Solutions Designed for Polyurethane Hardwood Floors

There are lots of hardwood floor cleaners out there, but you want to make sure you’re using ones that are specifically designed for polyurethane finished hardwood floors. Other cleaners could dull the finish.

Take off Your Shoes

If you can help it, take off your shoes when you’re in the house. This prevents dirt and debris from tracking in and dulling your polyurethane finished floors.
