Once Or Twice A Week

Dust or vacuum your wood floors. You’re probably well aware of how fast dust and dirt can accumulate on your floors, which is why it’s a good idea to dust them at least once a week. Not only does weekly dusting make your floors look better, it also reduces the likelihood of them getting scratches, and removes allergens that would otherwise get kicked up into the air.

The easiest way to dust is to use one of the electrostatic dust cloths, which use a static charge to attract even more dust. You can also use a VERY DRY damp mop, as excess water can seep into the seams and ruin a wood floor.

If you prefer to use a vacuum, remember to check if there’s a hardwood floor adjustment on the vacuum so that the rotating brush system doesn’t scratch the floor.

Once a Month

At least once a month, use a hardwood floor cleaner to clean the floor. We recommend Bona products, however, you may also use a cleaner that is recommended by the manufacturer of your floor. Not only can using the wrong cleaner damage the finish or the floor, it can also void your warranty.

Don’t Use The Following for Hardwood Floor Cleaning

  • Soap – Leaves a soapy residue
  • Excess water – Water can be used in very small amounts, and needs to be wiped up immediately. Never use a wet mop on a wood floor.
  • Steam cleaners – The heat and moisture will cause cupping.
  • ANYTHING other than what has been recommended by the floor manufacturer or installer.
