Protecting Your Floors This Holiday Season

Nov 28, 2018

It’s the holiday season, and while hosting parties can be fun, there’s a huge toll it can have on your hardwood floors. With the weather, guests and food, your floors could end up stained, scratched, or ruined. Here are some steps you can take to ensure your floors stay beautiful despite the craziness of the holiday season.

Door mats and area rugs

Be sure to ask your guests to take their shoes off before walking through your home. This is a great way to reduce the traffic your floors receive. If you don’t want to ask your guests to take their shoes off, make sure there is a mat in front of the front door so they can wipe their shoes off before walking through the house.

Protect floors from the Christmas tree

If you are not careful, your Christmas tree can ruin your floor. It can come from needles, tree sap or water. Make sure to put a plastic sheet beneath your tree to protect your floor from water damage. You can even put felt pads on the bottom of the stand’s legs to protect your floors from scratches or dents.

Clean ahead of time

This step is so important in making sure there is less to clean up when the holiday season is over. Also- when you see there is a spill or a mess, act fast and clean it up quickly. Do not use oil soaps or water on your hardwood floors to clean, because this can cause damage. Make sure you’re using cleaning products that are specifically designed for your hardwood floors, such as Bona.
