Protecting Your Hardwood Floors During the Holidays
Nov 20, 2019The holiday season is here, which means your home might be getting a lot more traffic. It’s important to keep up with maintenance of your hardwood floors so that when the new year rolls around, you’re not stressing about your floors being worn out. Here are a list of ways to ensure your floors remain fresh and damage-free through the holiday season.
Have a quality finish
If your hardwood floors are protected with a great finish then there is not much you need to do. It is a form against scratches or dents and even liquids. Even though you have a quality finish, you need to still make sure any spills are cleaned up immediately.
Add mats to doorways
Many outside elements such as melted snow or rain can cause damage to your hardwood floors. Make sure your home’s entrances have a mat for guests to wipe their shoes on, protecting your hardwood floors against moisture damage.
Be careful when moving furniture around
Moving furniture is more likely to damage your floors than high heel shoes. If you rearrange the furniture in your home to make room for guests, be sure that chairs and tables are picked up instead of being dragged around. And, always put felt pads on the feet of your chairs and tables, just in case.
Ask guests to remove shoes
Even with mats, shoes can bring in elements to your home that aren’t good for your hardwood floors. Warn your guests to remove their shoes upon arrival to your home, or you can offer them slippers. This can keep your floors clean and prevent dirt from being spread around your home.
