Slight changes that will make a difference with your hardwood floors

Hardwood floors are an extremely durable and a long-lasting flooring choice for your home. However, overtime, it can start to look a little dull or scratched. Luckily, there are small changes you can make that can have a lasting effect on your floors, keeping them looking brand new for even longer.

Always do some light cleaning

Cleaning your hardwood floors does not have to be a strenuous job. All you have to do is consistently make sure your floors are being cleaned with the correct cleaning solution so they do not become damaged. In between cleanings, you can use a dry mop or broom to clean spills.

Check the humidity in your home

Wood floors are porous, and will expand and contract throughout the year depending on the temperature and season. If there is humidity and moisture in the air, your wood floors can buckle which creates gaps in between your floorboards. The best temperature for your home would be between 60 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit. Your humidity level should be between 30 to 50%. You can use a humidifier or dehumidifier to balance the moisture levels in certain rooms. Humidifiers in winter seasons are ideal because of the low humidity, and dehumidifier in the warmer seasons like summer.

Floor protectors

Scratches on your floors can be caused from different objects in your home, such as dining room chairs being moved across the floor, or shoes being used in the house. Adding pads to the bottom of your furniture will ensure it will not scratch or cause damage to your floors.

Add rugs throughout your home

One of the reason to get hardwood floors is because of its beauty, so it’s obvious to not want to cover it up completely with a rug or carpet. However, you can have an accent rug in certain rooms in your house to not only protect high traffic areas, but also coordinate with the furniture and compliment the hardwood floors.
